Meet
Bennie
Heading home.
When Bennie arrived at Ashford Hall, standing and walking were a challenge. Through a personalized rehabilitation program and his own determination, he made remarkable progress toward greater strength and independence.
Bennie could walk approximately 20 feet with a walker and maximum assistance. He also needed substantial help with transfers, dressing and grooming.
Bennie progressed to walking more than 150 feet with a walker, managing most dressing and grooming tasks, and moving short distances in his room with a cane.
A rehabilitation journey built around Bennie.
Bennie Peoples came to Ashford Hall Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in early May 2026 following hospitalization for acute renal failure. At admission, he could barely stand even with significant assistance and required substantial help with everyday self-care.
His Ashford Hall rehabilitation team developed an individualized plan designed to help him rebuild strength, endurance, balance and independence. Over the next three months, Bennie worked consistently toward the goal of returning safely to the community.
One team. A personalized plan.
Bennie's rehabilitation brought multiple disciplines together, each addressing an important part of his recovery and daily independence.
Building strength and independence.
Physical and occupational therapy focused on upper- and lower-extremity strength, endurance, standing balance and activities of daily living. Bennie also learned energy-conservation techniques to help him perform everyday activities more effectively.
Speech therapy worked with Bennie on functional reasoning, processing and memory strategies — helping address not only physical recovery, but the skills needed for greater independence.
Rehabilitation and dialysis — under one roof.
During his stay, Bennie also benefited from Ashford Hall's in-house dialysis services . Receiving dialysis at the center reduced the stress and inconvenience of transportation to an outside dialysis facility while he continued his rehabilitation.
Supporting success beyond discharge.
Bennie's progress continued all the way through discharge planning. His son secured a ground-level apartment and planned to live with him as he transitioned back into the community. Ashford Hall's social services team arranged home health services so Bennie could continue therapy at home and confirmed a community dialysis center for his ongoing treatment.
Every journey begins with a goal.
